Happy New Year... sort of

I was all ready yesterday to do a glowing New Years post about all the fun we had and such, looking back on the year and the exciting things to come in this one. Sadly, the morning started out with some bad news, and frankly it broke my heart and left me in a state of gloom all day. My wonderful friend Dianne was awaiting her 2nd court date for the little girl they are adopting from Ethiopia. The news was to come early, and frankly, we all thought it was a done deal. What came was a huge kick to the stomach.

It did don't go well... I am unsure of all the details, but something still was needed, and so the 3rd court date has been scheduled in February... A WHOLE ANOTHER MONTH WAIT! UGH! I literally cried out when I read her blog. Ken came running and there we stood in silence. We had no words, just shock. I can't imagine how they are coping, and part of me breaks down when I think about it. Pray for them, pray for their little girl waiting... and pray that this 3rd court date is the LAST one! Enough is enough... I love you Dianne, Chris and your sweet Elena. I hope you are all together very soon.

So the rest of the day was a bit of a blur, and I ended up taking down all the Christmas decorations. It was a good activity to keep me distracted. I don't remember much else except Ken getting a pizza for dinner... like I said, it was a difficult day. I do however remember starting to really feel somewhat pregnant. I was soooooooooo tired, and just wanted to sit. I am achy in my chest and my mouth has that terrible taste that feels like you are sick. Ugh. I would do some cleaning and then need to plant my butt down for 20 minutes to regain enough energy to continue. Ahhh... at least I know I am kicking into gear. Next week is my doctor's visit, and I am looking forward to getting my referral so I can see my baby doctor.

The previous day we had a wonderful New Years eve! We decided it be fun to go out for a late breakfast (as Ken and Ariel slept in till 11am- she is so like her daddy!!! We were up late the night before, just so it doesn't seem too weird.) Ariel wore her new outfit from Grammy and was looking very sweet. Baby Joy (as she has been named) came with us and we had a nice walk into the village. The snow is pretty much gone from the main walking areas finally... however they are talking about more coming - noooooooo!

Following breakfast, we got to visit our friend Joanie at her shop and tell her about our baby news, and she was thrilled. Ariel showed us our first needed purchase for the new baby, a bumbo seat... er, or maybe she wants if for herself. Ariel won't fit it much longer, but she was happy to see Joy did. Haha.

The remainder of the day I spent preparing the things we were taking for the fondue party. I LOVE fondue and I was thrilled we were getting to do such a fun meal with friends. Like I mentioned, we never get out on New Years, so this was quite an exciting event. Had to capture our last New Years as a family of 3, crazy!

When we arrived Brenda had done a BEAUTIFUL job decorating and making everything so lovely.

Even the kids had a special table all their own.

Ariel had a great time with the kids, and the fun toys they had gotten for Christmas. Her fav was the robotic Wall-E (Ken and I both want one now, haha). Ariel and Wall-E shared a dance, sooooooooooo cute!

The fondue night was full of excitement, as we were having 4 different types! First off a cheese and oil, followed by chocolate and berry. Just look at the goodies waiting to be dipped and eaten! Yes, those are twinkies on the dessert stand, hee.

Ariel was quite into the cheese fondue, and was the last kid remaining at the table still eating.

Lots of other fun activities happened in between the eating. A Wii had been brought and set up, Ariel is always up for bowling. She actually is pretty good with some help. Also some fun games were played like Settlers of Catan and the yelling game Pit. Always a hit with kids, haha.

Midnight came and Ariel wasn't too sure about the banging of pots and pans...

...she did like the little horn in her goody bag... once she figured out how to make sound come out of it. You really have to blow pretty hard on those things to get any noise out of it.

Ariel had made it, and as we got home and put her to bed, she was out in a matter of minutes... us too actually. We had a wonderful time and it was so special to be with friends this year. They even toasted to our upcoming baby (sparkling apple juice for me of course).

To my daughter Ariel, I hope this year is a wonderful one for you. I hope you are happy and full of life... and I think this video best fits that... eating pie and dancing to the Momma Mia movie. Happy 2009 sweetie!

Today was another lazy day. We went over to Dad and Rita's to collect their mail while they are off on some fun cruise. While there we did some laundry, had lunch I brought from the cafe and watched the 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' marathon on the food channel. I love getting to watch that since we don't have it. Now I have a serious craving for a pulled pork sandwich. I guess I will be looking up a recipe for later this week. Haha.

Tonight Ken has been cleaning up his desk area, as we are preparing to move it in to the storage room. The plan is our current computer room is to be Ariel's big girl room. The computer will get a new desk and downsize to the living room area. The toys that are there now will move up here and then Ariel will get a big girl bed... a real one. She isn't convinced the toddler bed counts and sneaks into our bed any chance she gets. Little monkey! We may also be getting a bedroom set for Ariel possibly from Joanie. She talked to us about giving us Marina's set, her daughter that was tragically killed several years ago in a car accident. She told me she was ready to let it go but wanted to find the right home for it. So if it works out, it is quite a touching gift. I will say I was in tears when she offered it.

Well, I guess thats it for now. Tomorrow we are having lunch with Nana and Papa (as long as the snow doesn't mess anything up). Maybe I should go see if its falling yet... nope, not yet.

I will keep your friend in my thoughts -- I hope the 3rd time will be the last.

We love fondue too -- we often do it with wine though, oh and of coarse chocolate for dessert!

What terrible news for your friends! Having to wait for another month seems so cruel!
Your fondue party looked SO yummy! I can't believe Ariel made it to the new year!! What a party animal!!

Sorry to hear the news about your friends. Praying for another change of date, but in their favor; also for patience as they wait.
looks like you had a great new years. I LOOOOOOOVE fondue, but have never heard of a berry one...i'll bet it was delicious! Kudos to ARiel for lasting until midnight! Taeya had had a rough day, so she went to bed just an hour later than normal (though I wasn't planning on letting her stay up).
have fun re-arranging the house for the baby's arrival!!! :) I love doing stuff like that, so I really do mean 'have fun' (in case it appears I'm joking, i'm really not!)
