It was a day full of Christmas cheer, and one upsetting phone call... but I will get into that later. First off, big CONGRATS out to my sister in law Jo. She passed the UFE , her big accounting exam for those who don't know that that is. Hope you are celebrating tonight girl! Woot!
Things started out smoothly with Ariel and I making our regular trek over to Dad and Rita's this morning. Ariel stuffed herself full of waffles, eggs and apple sauce, yum. We then headed over to our coffee party group for some Christmas fun. Yvonne had a lovely spread of goodies, but it was hard to see amongst everyone's little treats for each other. All sorts of neat treasures, everyone is always so creative. Ariel still managed to locate the cookies though, hehe.
Yvonne had several musical toys that Ariel got a kick out of... especially the dog that barked Christmas carols. Haha.
And then she found the little Christmas village. Can you tell she was in her glory, so many fun things to play with.
We got home just past lunch time and Ariel went and took a nap, woot! During that time I got a upsetting call from Ken's mom. Yaya had several strokes and in the course of that had fallen and broken her neck. She was paralyzed and in the hospital until she would be well enough to be moved to a nursing home. I was shocked and really was a loss for words. I called Ken and told him what had happened. When he got home later that day he called his mom and we got word that Yaya seems to only be paralyzed on the left side, so that was some good news. Needless to say its a terrible way to start the holidays for Ken's family. Just keep them all in your prayers in the coming weeks as Yaya transitions to her new home. She isn't happy about the move and she is still quite disorientated from everything. Frankly, I am just happy she is still with us. So that is a blessing.
After dinner of yummy chicken vegetable soup I made in my slow cooker and scones, we got all bundled up for the tree lighting ceremony. Thankfully it wasn't raining this year and it wasn't too cold either.
Ariel was all excited to go and kept asking when the parade would be coming. It was hard for her to sit still and wait, but the mayor came by with a basket of candy canes and that worked. Haha.
Then the truck with the carolers arrived, and Ariel was mesmerized by it all. The music was lovely and the crowds all sang together. Ariel sat on Ken's shoulders and watched with her eyes as big as saucers.
Then the big moment came... the tree was lit! Followed by the parade and Santa riding on top of the fire engine.
As we walked back home to our place, we happened to run into Santa! Too bad my camera was on the wrong setting and it was blurry, oh well. Ariel was still pleased to get another candy cane. She is totally addicted.
A family picture to remember the fun, hee.
We made our way home to made some popcorn and watched Charlie Brown's Christmas and Arthur's Perfect Christmas. I asked what her favorite part was tonight, she said 'Santa on the truck.' Then I asked what song she liked best, 'the Jesus song' she replied. That means Away in a Manger, as I have been singing it for her lately and she loves to do the actions. Too cute! Well, I need to get the princess ready for bed. Think we might do some more baking tomorrow morning, and then we have a fun night planned with seeing our friends. Have a good weekend everyone, and remember to say a prayer for Yaya. Thanks!
