Well we woke up early this morning. I think it was a combination of nerves and frustration... not sure what the day would bring. We decided that Ken would take the car to the garage that was recommended to us by the tow truck guy, and I would stay at the hotel to let Ariel sleep. Before we parted ways we said a little prayer, we really needed it. Nothing more scary and stressful than being in a strange town, without any direction about how to proceed.
Ken left and I watched the Food channel, oh I love that station. It wasn't long after that Blair called. We had left a message with him yesterday since he is the 'Volvo wizard' and figured he might know what happened. Around that time the mechanic had discovered the problem so Ken was on the phone with Blair while the diagnosis was given. Thankfully it wasn't something major, but a fuel pump filter. Parts and labour was under $100! Talk about a huge answer to prayer.
When Ken got back he told me about this sign that was hanging in the shop. I broke into tears, the fellow who had fixed our car was a Christian, and as we look back at how we were lead there, we can't shake how God was truly taking care of us the whole time. So we went back to take a picture of it to remember this story, and to share of course with our pastor when we get home.
The next decision was how far to go today. After much discussion, we decided to go to Spokane and stop there, and continue our original day plan for the following day. It was going to be another day of 100 degree weather, and after all the stress of the car, we needed to take it easy and not push things. So we packed up and said good bye to our hotel that was our little 'surprise' visit. Ariel was sad to say goodbye to the pool, so we had to snap one more picture of her relaxing by it.
We got driving and even though I knew the car was fine, I was still on edge a bit. The heat didn't help either. Half way to Spokane, we stopped at this cheesy truck stop that was FILLED with cheap knick knacks. It was sooooooo tacky, but it was a fun stop to stretch the legs.
Ariel ended up finding a cute light toy that entertained her for the next few hours in the car. Gotta love that. Personally, it makes me dizzy to look at it for too long.
I was never so happy to see the welcome to Idaho and then the welcome to Washington signs. Woot! We are much closer to home and it feels great. The hotel we are staying at is super nice and the room is huge for Ariel to run around in. She totally wanted to help bring in our bags, and the elderly ladies who were coming out were in love with her eagerness to help her daddy. Hee.
After a quick shower to cool off, we took off for a late lunch. I had found a really neat place online, so we went to check it out. It was a super cool old train car that was made into a restaurant. Such a great find! So cute and the food was yummy.
The waitress was kinda enough to snap a family picture for us!
Ariel loved the 'old man' as she called him, that peaked through the window of the booth next to us. She had to keep checking to see if he was there still.
We also had to get one of Ariel at the counter. I highly recommend this place if you are passing through.
One of the cool perks of the hotel was the free popcorn in the afternoon! Ariel loved her tasty snack! (Yes, we are using a coffee filter as a plate - lol)
For dinner we went to this place called Wonderland USA. A family place where it had lots of games and activities. Ken was hoping the 'animatronics' were still working but sadly they only sang and didn't move. Kinda a bummer for him, since it was such a big part of his childhood. Ariel still enjoyed the music but was soon distracted by all the other games.
She loved the whack-a-mole, hehe.
Now we are back at the hotel, and resting up for our last day on the road tomorrow. Outside a thunderstorm is crashing, hoping the rain cools things off for the drive tomorrow. Tune in for the final trip report when we get home, and then we will return to our regular scheduled programming. Until then, enjoy some of the fun we had today.
